Adventurer Abounds

The winter doll drums hit us and we were ready to hit the road and do something off the farm, So we decided it was time to put our Adventurer truck bed camper to the test and what a better test than to take it off grid in winter!
We headed first to Black Mesa State Park, near Boise City, Ok. We have driven past the turnoff countless times on our way to Pagosa Springs, and say every time we need to go check it out. This weekend was finally a time where the stars (mostly) aligned and we were able to take it out. We made a quick jaunt over to the lake on Valentine’s day to load the camper from our storage at the lake house.
On Thursday we got back to the house with it and I went grocery shopping to finish stocking it for our outing.
I got food that I knew i could heat/cook in the microwave and an air fryer. I’ve never used one before, so it’s full on adventure time.

Our adventure started out with broken fridge and no one to work on it. Since we really hadn’t camped in it yet, even though we bought it a few years ago, it was a big bummer to have a fridge error code that we could not reset. No worries, we grabbed the egg fridge off the porch, shuffled some things around and grabbed my EcoFlow Battery Pack and off we went.
We drove through some hellacious wind on the way out, and when your rig is as tall as this F350 with a cabover trailer, you catch a lot of wind.
Once we got past Guymon, it was much better.
We pulled into Black Mesa State Park with about an hour of daylight left, which was just enough time to get the camper spot chosen, and set up. The best part? Brand new HEATED full size bathrooms and showers. Kudos, State of Oklahoma, those were awesome.
We got settled in just as the snow started falling. Ray got our water tank filled and hose put away and we were ready to snuggle in for the night.
For dinner, I tested out the new air fryer and we had potstickers and crab rangoon. The air fryer worked great on park supplied power no problem.
We watched a couple of movies and then went to test out the sleeping accomodations. First of all, if you don’t know us, we are not petite people. so a king sized bed was a must for us, and getting in and out of it was a bit of a question mark, could we comfortably do it? The answer was yes! We slept well, comfortable in heat and space.
We woke up to a completely white landscape where was brown the previous day, a total of maybe an inch of snow overnight. After a breakfast of pancakes and eggs, we grabbed our coats and cameras and went exploring. This park is a must-see in the spring and fall. Summers may get pretty hot and pretty snaky for me, as it looked like Mr. Rattlesnake would be right at home here. There’s a beautiful creek that runs along a tall rock ledge and they have built a swimming beach there on the creek.
Ray took a step and immediatly sunk to his knee in the sand, as some critter had burrowed in deep in the sand. Luckily it wasn’t full of water since he only had one pair of shoes with us! We took a walk around, looking at all the flora and fawna around, and then packed back up to head to Picture Canyon, across the border in Colorado.
