Through the highlands, headed for the coast

We woke early and decided to keep making tracks towards Reykjavik. This was our last full day and night, and needed to get across the next peninsula so that we could easily make it into the airport in time.  We decided to do a car picnic and stopped at a “Bonus,” the local grocery chain and got some snack sticks and some cheese and crackers and a couple of sodas for the road.  It turned out to be the VERY best cheese snacks I’ve ever had!

As we cruised along to our next destination, Ray quickly pulled the car over without warning. I looked up and he’s scanning the horizon over the bay. “I think I just saw a whale!” he said.  We found a better spot a few yards down and got out the long lens and waited for the spray of water to surface. Soon enough we were rewarded with a beautiful spray and we sat and watched the whale for about 10 minutes.

Our drive wound through the hills, the ridge and the mountains for the whole afternoon, each place better than the last.
